Healing steps

Sometimes there are times when you don’t have time for yourself-go to the gym, do yoga, go for a run with your favorite dog. It seems as if a healthy lifestyle is something about sports, tight clothes, and working out. But it turns out that our bodies don’t need such “feats” in order to be toned. Let’s see why.

People relatively recently got the ability to move around without moving their two feet. All the time before that, we were walking, running, and moving around without mobility aids. Yes, as Daniel Lieberman, a renowned evolutionary biologist, showed in 2004, we did evolve “on the run”. But that doesn’t mean that running is necessary.

In his book Exercised: Why Something We Never Evolved to Do Is Healthy and Rewarding, Daniel concludes that we need to do at least something, at least some walking, but do it regularly. The fact is, as mentioned above, we’ve only recently begun to decrease activity, and it’s really affecting the way our bodies work. After all, it developed by walking.

But feats really aren’t necessary. And even the well-known recommendation to walk 10,000 steps a day is not at all a mandatory norm from the WHO, as many people mistakenly write, but the most common promotional campaign that was launched when the pedometer was invented. In fact, the right number of steps is very different with age, and even easy walks can help keep the body in check.

So you don’t have to find time to go to the gym or buy running shoes at all. Trust GoBe to count your steps and distance and just enjoy the views – that’s a lot for your body.

Have a great walk!
