Did you know that water makes up 2/3 of your body? Normal hydration is essential for your body functions. For example, water is crucial to maintaining your body temperature, ensuring your blood circulation, regulating your digestion, transporting oxygen to your organs and cells, and much more.
It’s because if you don’t drink enough water, you run the risk of dehydration. This condition can cause fatigue, headaches, dry skin, reduced joint mobility, impaired attention and metabolism, reduced activity and low productivity.
Your body’s hydration level depends not only on how much water you drink, but also on your body’s ability to absorb and retain fluids.
When you drink a glass of water, it stays in your stomach for only 10 minutes. From there, the water moves to the small intestine, then to the colon.
If you drink water on an empty stomach or between meals, it takes about 20 minutes for water to move through the digestive tract. If there is food inside the intestines, the time required for digestion increases.
The time it takes for the body to absorb water changes due to medications that affect water-salt metabolism and hydration metabolism. For example, diuretic medications will greatly skew GoBe values.
Every day, your body gets an average of about 2.5 liters of fluid from drinking water, beverages, and food.
GoBe “adjusts” to the level of water balance that your body normally maintains, because every body absorbs water, food and nutrients differently.
In addition, it’s important to remember that the body absorbs water differently under different conditions. For example, if you drink two glasses of water immediately after physical activity, your body absorbs less fluid than if you drink water in small portions during your workout.
Finally, hydration is also affected by what beverages you drink. Mineral water and isotonic drinks are quickly absorbed, while sodas and alcohol provoke fluid loss.
When you wear GoBe for the first time, its sensors start collecting data about your body to determine your body’s hydration rate. If you wear the smart band constantly, without taking it off at night, it will determine your normal hydration in a couple of days. If you wear the smart band infrequently and do not let it adjust properly, this process can take up to a week. Therefore, GoBe is especially important to wear 20-22 hours every day in the first few days. During this time, it trains its algorithms to determine your individual hydration levels.
To determine your hydration level, GoBe evaluates the dynamics of intercellular fluid in the tissues of your arm every minute, all the time you wear it. To do this, GoBe uses a patented bioimpedance sensor, Sleep and Energy balance data along with and your individual body parameters. By constantly running all of this data through a unique mathematical model of human physiology, the smart band understands how much water is currently in your tissues and whether it is enough, compared to your personal norm.
Thus, while you are wearing the smart band, GoBe constantly calculates your current hydration level and compares it to your individual norm. If your hydration level is lower than normal, the smart band alerts you and indicates how much water your body is lacking in milliliters right on its display.
There are two different features in the HEALBE app and GoBe3 smart band: Total loss and water Deficit. While you are wearing the smart band, GoBe3 constantly calculates the amount of water in your body. If it is not enough compared to your personal norm, it alerts you with a vibration and DRINK MORE WATER message on the screen, and then displays your current water Deficit in milliliters:
Using this metric, you can quickly see how much water your body exactly needs to stay at its peak – the number of milliliters is displayed right on the smart band screen.
The Total loss metric in the HEALBE app works differently. It adds up all the times your Hydration level was below Normal, regardless of whether or not you drank water at the time you were dehydrated. This is the total amount of fluid your body used up while wearing the GoBe3.
By analyzing your Total loss and a graph on the Water Balance screen in the HEALBE app, you will understand when your body uses water and how much water it needs in total to maintain the right balance.
When your body’s Hydration level is Low, GoBe reminds you to drink water by vibrating and displaying a “DRINK MORE WATER” message on the screen. The frequency and periodicity of these reminders are based on your metabolic analysis, activity level and the personal information from your Profile in the HEALBE app.
In the app, you set a time interval during which GoBe can remind you about water so as not to disturb you during meetings and important events. You also can turn off all the notifications at any time inside app’s Settings.
To get more accurate hydration readings, wearing a smart band is quite enough, but you need to do it constantly, taking it off only for recharging. The GoBe also needs constant contact between the sensors and your skin to collect accurate data. So it needs to fit snugly, but without causing discomfort.
