Food consciousness

Most people usually eat without thinking.

From now, let’s try to eat in another way by giving our full attention to the food we consume and taking our time as long as it deserves?

This behavior will help us establish a healthy relationship with food, and it can be repeated while taking any kind of food.

Choose food for the experiment. Let it be something small for one bite: a piece of dark chocolate or a grape. Or another product with a distinct texture and taste.

Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Concentrate and observe your breathing for a few minutes. Inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. If thoughts begin to wander, gently direct your attention to the breathing process.

Take the selected product and hold it in your hand. Imagine tasting it for the first time in your life.

Open your eyes. What does this product look like? What’s its shape? Which color? How does it reflect light?

When choosing a food product, think about its origin. For instance, where is it from? How was the shipping done, and who were those involved on the product’s way to the point you could access it? In this way, we could appreciate nature for that gift.

Close your eyes again. Feel the product in your hands. What’s its temperature? What is the texture? How dense is it? Try bringing it up to your nose. How does it smell? Do you salivate? How about trying it? How do you feel, looking forward to starting to eat it?

Feel the food in your mouth. Chew the food slowly, focusing on flavor and texture. Resist the temptation to swallow it quickly to get another bite.

When the food turns into a thin gruel, you can swallow. Pay attention to how the swallowed product feels in the body.

When all sensations associated with food have disappeared, open your eyes.
