There are two ways to check your battery life percentage, either in the HEALBE app or on the device itself.

2. Press the button on the side of the device until you see a battery icon with a percentage displayed. That percentage is your device’s remaining battery life.

GoBe 2 uses patented FLOW Technology and an impedance sensor to analyze changes in your body’s glucose concentration. As glucose concentrations rise, cells absorb glucose and release water. The impedance sensor sends high and low-frequency signals through your tissue to measure the fluid moving in and out of your cells. FLOW Technology then applies this information to an advanced algorithm to analyze this data and determine calorie intake.

In 1999, a St. Petersburg-based company called Algorithm set out to develop a model of how glucose is used within the body with the hopes of developing a device that could monitor glucose levels non-invasively.

Algorithm applied the methodology of TRIZ, a Theory of Inventive Problem Solving that brings together multiple disciplines to focus on a common problem. The initial working group included an endocrinologist, a psychologist, a mathematician, and a TRIZ analyst. At later stages of the project, the team expanded to include clinical diagnosticians, engineers and programmers.

Development of the basic technology was completed in 2003, supported by more than 500 internal tests. In 2012, Healbe acquired Algorithm’s technology and set out to adapt it to automatically monitor calorie intake and calories burned. Healbe developed a stream of mathematical models that allowed the company to apply the basic technology to a range of physiological processes. The final result is Healbe patented FLOW Technology.

FLOW Technology’s automatic calorie intake measurement depends on a sophisticated model of the glucose curve—that is, how glucose and water are absorbed and released by your cells in response to calories consumed. Our future efforts will be aimed at increasing the accuracy of our glucose curve model. We are also finalizing a more accurate method of estimating the amount of protein consumed.

Trying to track your calorie intake manually is very inaccurate for several reasons.

1. Human error: Unless you precisely weigh or measure every bite you eat (including ingredients in prepared meals), you have to rely on estimations. It’s very difficult to correctly estimate the amount of cheese on a piece of pizza, or the number of chocolate chips in a cookie.
2. Inaccuracy of nutrition labels: Even if you only eat packaged food with nutrition labels, the actual calories you end up ingesting can differ based on how the food is prepared.
   1. For example, the calories in one serving of pasta could vary from 135-320 calories, depending on how well it’s cooked—so if you’re manually tracking calories, accuracy can vary greatly.
3. Individual metabolic variations: The way your body digests calories is unique to you. Two people with different metabolisms might digest different amounts of calories from the same exact meal. There’s no way to account for these metabolic variables when measuring calorie intake manually. GoBe 2 is the only way to automatically measure calorie intake using information from your own body so you don’t have to worry about human error, inaccurate nutrition labels or individual metabolic variations.

Currently, the margin of error for calorie intake measurement is 15 percent, a deviation comparable to calorie estimations on food labels. GoBe 2’s accuracy is groundbreaking in terms of measuring calorie intake with no user input. Please note that the more you wear GoBe 2, the more accurate the calorie intake data collection becomes.

Healbe has conducted multiple tests to determine how accurate GoBe 2 is at measuring calorie intake. During the tests, subjects wore GoBe 2 while eating precisely measured meals, and we compared GoBe 2’s readings with the known calorie content of the food consumed.

When you eat, carbohydrates and fats from your meal are converted to energy using two separate physiological mechanisms. The relative proportions of fat and carbohydrates in your meal affect the shape of the glucose curve – that is, how glucose and water are absorbed and released by your cells in response to calories consumed.

Generally speaking, carb-heavy meals cause rapid glucose intake by cells. Meals containing more fat lead to a slower absorption of glucose. Healbe FLOW Technology uses a sophisticated mathematical model to analyze the dynamics of your individual glucose curve and determine the percentage of calories you consume from carbohydrates vs. fats.

GoBe 2 is not designed to measure glucose in the treatment of diabetes, and it is not a substitute for regular glucose monitoring. However, a diabetic who uses insulin properly to control his or her blood glucose levels would be able to use GoBe 2 to automatically measure calorie intake.
