Where does the energy go?

Energy is the main currency of the modern world. It helps to think clearly, and to move actively. The body component responsible for feeling energized and active is dopamine.

Dopamine is an important part of the brain’s “reward system” that helps us focus on productive activity.

Specifically, this “evolutionary carrot” influences the center of satisfaction in our brain, provoking pleasant sensations and anticipation. When pleasure is perceived as we gain profits, it stimulates us to repeat the process.

For example, when you eat a whole chocolate bar, it hurts your figure. But evolutionarily high amounts of fast carbs are great for surviving. Therefore, the body reinforces its neural connection between these actions and pleasure with dopamine.

If the “reward” has exceeded or met the expectations, then the motivation for the activity remains. With insufficient encouragement, dopamine connections will decrease activity, and the motivation to do the action will disappear.

When dopamine level is normal, you are energized and able to enjoy the simplest things. But usually, we press the dopamine “button” until we completely lose sensitivity.

 How does this affect you?

1. Overeating and abuse of food with a strong taste

2. Endless TV series watching

3. Constant background music listening

4. Sedentary

5. Gambling or gaming addiction

6. Excessive social media hang-ups and virtual communication

7. Alcohol, tobacco, and drugs

To restore the dopamine system effectiveness, one can try to give up the small momentary pleasures for more pleasure in the future.

Don’t be tempted by short-term rewards, even if they are easy to get. Overcome obstacles, invest in your priorities, and do not be distracted by temptations.

It will then pay for itself: you will experience an incredible rise for conquering the desired peak thanks to dopamine.
