The main drug of the XXI century

Some of the modern top-drug characteristics are that it lowers the immune system, induces fatigue and depression, causes unnecessary weight gain, micronutrient deficiencies, accelerates individuals’ aging, and causes addiction. And it is absolutely legal. Have you already guessed, what is it?

It’s the sugar of course. But why is sugar so problematic?

However, the concern is that when the body has excessive carbohydrates and enough energy is produced but not utilized, what do they become?

It will definitely be converted and stored as glycogen. This is typically the way glucose is stored in the liver and abdominal fatty tissues.

This gradually leads to insulin resistance which could eventually spill over in the form of Type-2 diabetes mellitus.

A quick “fuelling up” with lots of sugar makes one feel tired and causes a desire to eat another sugary food or take a coffee in less than two hours. When a person experiences fatigue, it is a sign that cortisol is released into the bloodstream, which simultaneously contributes to a sharp drop in blood sugar levels.

If you ever thought of attaining a healthy diet, then you’ve probably thought about a serious cut out on sugar.

Hence, continued consumption of sugary products could cause withdrawal symptoms, and this is why many people consider sugar as a drug, although the term may seem inappropriate to others while referring to food.

In this case, individuals usually experience a strong reaction as a responsive mechanism of eliminating this “drug” food from the diet. For example, one might experience headaches and mood swings in the first few days when they stop consuming sugar.

This is a normal positive reaction that manifests how the withdrawal occurs. All these reactions will definitely subside with time, usually within one to three days.

Hence, we should monitor our condition to avoid overloading. If you foresee any stressful event in the future, it’s advisable to postpone the sugar refusal simply because it may provoke you to become a sweet tooth again.
